Uta
Bath´s photographic work revolves around the processes of perception and the
visceral and intellectual pleasures of seeing. It explores the consciousness of
visual sensation and the implications of the act of observation.
Furthermore
she also reflects upon the traditional characteristics of photography and the
expectations viewers’ project upon pictures. This aspect of her work is
even more relevant if you consider that her work runs counter to the current
trends in today's photo-art market. The most celebrated works of the last
decades have been based on the spectacularity of them. The bigger, brighter and
louder a work is the more praise it gets. Contrary to this Uta´s work is
silent, suggestive and actively engages the viewer as part of the piece.
Referring
to her work as "out of focus" seems to be misleading. It is perfectly
focused…on an unoccupied point in space.
